Why feeding Steller sea lions hurts all commercial fisheries:
- Sea lions become habituated and more likely to follow your boat and interact with your catch and gear.
- Sea lions become aggressive and YOU or your fellow fishermen can be bitten and injured. Sea lions pass on these behaviors to other sea lions, continuing the problem.
- Sea lions become entangled, injured, or killed giving your fishery a bad reputation.
