Nushagak Cooperative in Dillingham is proposing to divert a portion of water out of the Nuyakuk River and run it through turbines bypassing a half mile long cascade, four miles below Nuyakuk Lake.
This project generates energy from a 40-foot long foil turning at the bottom of Kvichak River at Igiugig. It has a 10-year pilot license because of its potential impact to anadromous fish and Bristol Bay’s sockeye runs.
The City of Angoon has been working to get the Thayer Creek run-of-river hydropower facility designed and constructed. ANILCA permits the Kootznoowoo Tlingit tribe to construct a hydropower facility without going through FERC.
