U.S. Whale Entanglement Response Level 1 - Alaska Region First Responder Training

October 02, 2019

Level 1 First Responder training to prepare recreational and commercial boaters to report whale entanglements in Alaska.

Whale rescue is complex and dangerous. Only trained individuals (Level 4–5) from the Large Whale Entanglement Response Network who are authorized and permitted under the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program may attempt to disentangle a whale.

This Level 1 online training will prepare you to properly assess, document, and report critical entanglement information to the highly trained disentanglement experts prior to the launch of a response effort. It will not prepare or qualify you to perform or assist in the actual process of disentangling a whale.

This online course will take approximately 1 hour to complete. Within a month of successfully completing course,  you will receive an email confirming you have passed the assessment and completed the course for Level 1 First Responder training.
