Advisory Panel for the Pacific Hake/Whiting Treaty
Description and list of U.S. and Canadian members of the Pacific hake/whiting treaty's Advisory Panel.
The Advisory Panel of the Pacific Hake/Whiting Treaty comprises industry representatives, who review scientific advice, management of the fishery, and provide Total Allowable Catch advice to the Joint Management Committee. The U.S. and Canada each appoint at least six, but no more than 12 individuals to serve as members. Panel members must be knowledgeable or experienced in the harvesting, processing, marketing, management, conservation, or research of the Pacific whiting fisheries. The Advisory Panel meets annually, prior to the meeting of the Joint Management Committee, to:
- Establish its terms of reference
- Compile and provide, by Mar. 25 of each year, the names of three scientific experts as candidates for the Joint Technical Committee and the names of at least five scientific experts as candidates for the Scientific Review Group, for appointment in the following year
- Review the advice of the Scientific Review Group and Joint Technical Committee
- Review management of the two parties' fisheries during the previous year
- Make recommendations to the Joint Management Committee regarding the overall total allowable catch.
