2019 Gulf Of Alaska Ecosystem Status Report: In Brief

The Gulf of Alaska experienced unusually warm conditions in 2019. This followed the extreme marine heatwave of 2014–2016 (known popularly as “The Blob”) and a return to more typical temperatures during 2017 and 2018.

2019 Eastern Bering Sea Ecosystem Status Report: In Brief

The eastern Bering Sea experienced the second year of low sea ice conditions during winter 2018/2019 due to (1) residual heat in the Chukchi Sea in fall of 2018 and (2) anomalous winds from the south in February 2019 causing ice retreat.

Alaska Fisheries Life History Database

The Life History database website was created by scientists in the Resource Ecology and Ecosystem Modeling group of the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. This site allows users to access life history information for species inhabiting the eastern Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and Gulf of Alaska management regions. An extensive review of the literature was conducted to collect known life history data for species of these regions. The life history datasets in this database currently have information for target and non-target bycatch fish species.

2019 Alaska Climate Integrated Modeling Project Brochure

The ACLIM project represents a comprehensive, collaborative effort by NOAA Fisheries and partners to characterize and project climate-driven changes to the Bering Sea ecosystem, from physics to fishing communities. The goal is to provide decision-makers with information on how different fisheries management approaches might attenuate or amplify climate-driven changes to fish and shellfish populations.
