Biological Opinion on the Replacement of the UniSea, Inc. Gl Dock and Associated Proposed Issuance of an Incidental Harassment Authorization in Iliuliuk Harbor, Unalaska, Alaska

Biological opinion on the proposed replacement of the UniSea, Inc. Gl dock and its effect on listed species and designated critical habitat for those species. NMFS Consultation Number: AKR-2016-9518

This Opinion considers the effects of the proposed replacement of the G1 dock and the associated proposed issuance of an Incidental Harassment Authorization. These actions have the potential to affect the following species and designated critical habitat:

  • the endangered humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae)
  • the endangered western Distinct Population Segment of Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus)
  • designated critical habitat for Steller sea lion

The proposed project will require the installation of steel and fiber-reinforced polymer pipe piles and sheet piles. The project will also require the removal of steel pipe and timber piles.
