Marine Mammal Specialist

Suzie focuses on humpback whale management and marine mammal and fisheries interactions. She coordinates the Marine Mammal Protection Act Stock Assessment Reports, List of Fisheries, and Marine Mammal Authorization Program for the Alaska Region. She also coordinates the Whale SENSE program for Alaska, which is a voluntary education, stewardship, and recognition program for whale watching operators. She has a masters and Ph.D. from University of Alaska Fairbanks (Juneau Campus). Her background is primarily in humpback whale research, including: photo identification, population dynamics, ecosystem dynamics, citizen science, physiology and vessel disturbance, and outreach and education. Suzie has been in Juneau, Alaska since 2002. When she isn't working, she is chasing after her young son and spending time outside and on the water.
