Elizabeth Phillips

Background

Elizabeth (Beth) completed her PhD at the University of Washington, School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in 2018. She received her MSc in Marine Biology from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories/San Francisco State University, and her BSc in Biology from Western Washington University. Prior to joining NWFSC as a Research Fish Biologist, Beth was a National Research Council postdoc. She was also a contract research assistant with the Fish Ecology division between 2008-2011.

Current Research

Beth conducts research to support sustainable management of Pacific hake, with an emphasis on fisheries acoustics methods, linking physical ocean conditions and prey abundance to hake diet, growth, and distribution, and integrating ecological monitoring into the joint US-Canada Integrated Ecosystem and Acoustic-Trawl Survey, in support of ecosystem-based fisheries management. She is on the Fisheries Engineering and Acoustic Technologies team.
