Petitions Awaiting 90-Day Findings
Current endangered species petitions being evaluated for 90-day findings.
Background
Under the Endangered Species Act, any person or organization can petition us to:
-
List a species as threatened or endangered.
-
Reclassify or delist a species.
-
Revise critical habitat.
After receiving a petition, we evaluate whether it presents substantial information that the petitioned action may be warranted. Within 90 days (to the maximum extent practicable), we must publish a finding that states our decision whether to accept the petition. This is called a “90-day finding.”
