Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Idaho.

Where did you go to school and what subject did you get your degree(s) in?

I went to Florida Institute of Technology for my Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Information Systems and my Master’s degree in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University.

Hiking with my kids! My little one can hike 4-5 miles without any help!! She found an old glove on this hike and insisted she wear it! Photo courtesy of Braydon Mikesell.

How did you come to work at the Southeast Fisheries Science Center?

I worked for the Department of Homeland Security in Miami and learned of the opportunity to come to NOAA Fisheries. I had previously worked for NOAA and found it to be one of the best places I’ve worked. I wanted to come back to that. It has been the best work adventure to date and I love what I do!

What do you do at the science center?

I manage major support elements that are essential parts of the mission at the science center. That includes overseeing budget and contracting, administrative support, information technology, and facilities.

What do you like most about your position?

My most favorite part is building a strong team and the wide variety of tasks that come to my desk each day. It is a very challenging and rewarding position.

Thank you for your service as a veteran. What does being a veteran mean to you?

Being a veteran and serving in the United States Army has reinforced values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage that I hold near and dear to me. These values and the lessons I learned while serving our country have made me who I am and reinforced sound skills to lead the Operations, Management and Information Division. I will forever be grateful for the lessons I learned while serving in the Military.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a father to four amazing children and you will find me adventuring almost every weekend. I love the outdoors and spend a lot of time exploring and trying new things. I recently started skiing again and found it extremely fun to get back to some mountains after years in Florida and by the ocean.
