About
The Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute aquarium and touch tank exhibits will certainly inspire curiosity and give visitors an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Juneau’s most fascinating tide pool creatures! Educational materials are available to help visitors learn more about Alaska Fisheries Science Center's two main missions: fish stock assessment of the North Pacific Ocean, and ecosystem research. Cameras are welcome.
Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute is located north of Juneau at Lena Point. It is one of the leading science facilities for NOAA Fisheries—the government agency charged with sustainable management of U.S. fisheries. The Institute is the headquarters of the Auke Bay Laboratories, a division of the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. The 66,000 square foot facility is NOAA's largest fisheries research laboratory.
Alaska’s fisheries are considered to be among the best-managed, most sustainable fisheries in the world. They contribute billions of dollars to the U.S. economy, and employ more people in Alaska than any other private industry.
