MRIP Data User Seminar: FES Queries and Custom Domain Analyses
The fifth in a series of training sessions for stock assessors, fisheries analysts, and other Marine Recreational Information Program data users.
About
On June 21, 2022, NOAA Fisheries' Marine Recreational Information Program updated its online Query Tool to include three new queries of Fishing Effort Survey estimates:
- Estimated distributions of shore and private boat fishing trips by age
- Estimated distributions of shore and private boat fishing trips by gender
- Estimated prevalence of shore and private boat fishing among residents of coastal states
At the same time, MRIP published two new public-use FES datasets, as well as a template program that can be used to estimate shore and private boat effort distributions for custom domains across angler demographic characteristics.
This seminar provides an overview of these queries, as well as examples (using SAS software) of how these public-use datasets may be used to produce custom effort estimates.
