Background

Marina received her Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of Technology in the Russian Federation (the credentials confirmed by American Credential Evaluation Services, Foreign Consultants, Inc.), and an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Shoreline Community College, Shoreline, WA, USA.

In 2004, she joined the federal workforce with the NOAA Workforce Management Office. As an HR Advisor, she served as team lead, provided guidance to staff, coordinated, and reviewed the team members' work assignment and group projects. She provided staffing, recruitment, placement, and classification services for NOAA and Department of Commerce offices, including the NOAA Fisheries Service, the National Weather Service, NESDIS, and the EDA.

Previously, she brings with her ten years of work experience as a Safety and Occupational Health Senior Engineer (SOH Manager) in Sevastopol, Ukraine. She served at Sevastopol Cold Storage Plant and Enterprise as a project lead for developing Disaster preparedness plans in cooperation with local government, emergency management, and public safety organizations. She made post-exercise assessments and evaluations with monitoring of employee exposure to ammonia, indoor air quality contaminants, noise, and radiation, providing guidance and assistance in emergency spill prevention, facility safety, and confined space rescue and equipment.

Current Responsibilities

Marina Derksema joined the Northwest Fisheries Science Center in 2013. She serves as the Center's point of contact for all HR-related policies and procedures. She has extensive experience in federal human resources practices including staffing, classification, pay, and leave, recruitment, and placement.
