Data Management Specialist (Affiliate)

Lori works within the Data Services Team of the Ecosystem Sciences Division (ESD), and is involved in the National Coral Reef Monitoring Program efforts across the Pacific Islands. Duties include meeting the needs of the ESD in data governance, data integrity, and PARR compliance to make research publicly available as well as preparing and managing data during field operations, application development, and customer support.

Lori has a foundation in biochemistry and cell biology, and obtained her master's of science at Scripps Institution of Oceanography researching the evolutionary ecology of intertidal copepods. Lori continues to serve as an instructor by contract for UC San Diego, facilitating the course Marine Invertebrates for UCSD Extension Pre-college Programs. Her field experience also spans working with endangered species in the Department of Conservation in New Zealand, ocean ecosystem monitoring on the CalCOFI cruise for NMFS Southwest Fisheries Science Center, as well as working with local communities in Indonesia in organizing community events to promote waste management in coastal remote villages. Her passions include community development, outdoor education, assisting underserved communities, cultural exchanges, ecosystem monitoring, and improving the quality of scientific data and translating knowledge into action.
