Jon Lee, Ph.D.

Background

Jon Lee received a BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley in 1999, was a Fulbright Scholar in Biology at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand from 1999 to 2000, and received a PhD in Neurobiology & Behavior from Cornell in 2006. He began as an NRC postdoc at NWFSC in 2006 and became a NOAA Research Fisheries Biologist in 2008. Previous studies covered topics including aggressive behavior, chemical communication, reproductive behavior, reproductive physiology, habitat selection, hatchery effects on behavior, and stock enhancement. Research subjects included fishes and frogs.

Current Research

As a member of the Behavioral Ecology Team, Jon collaborates with the Marine Fish Group to refine rearing methods for the sablefish aquaculture industry. Current projects focus on identifying new first-feeding techniques and developing alternative water additives for larval rearing. Jon also collaborates with the Puget Sound Restoration Fund to test alternative grow-out methods for Olympia oysters.
