Eric Ward, Ph.D.
Background
Dr. Eric Ward joined NOAA Fisheries in 2009 as a statistician. Eric received a Ph.D. in fisheries from the University of Washington (2006), where he received a National Sea Grant/National Marine Fisheries Service fellowship in population dynamics with Ray Hilborn. Eric also has a B.S. in ecology (UC San Diego) and a M.Sc. degree in Biology with Daniel Goodman (Montana State University Bozeman).
Current Research
Eric works on a variety of statistical problems, including spatial and spatiotemporal models, univariate and multivariate time series analyses, model selection, hierarchical models. Recent applications of these techniques have included population viability, models of salmonid reproductive success, the analysis of stable isotope and stomach content data, and new tools for better forecasting bycatch of protected or depleted species. These methods are used to assist status analyses for a variety of populations and species at risk. The latest up to date information can be found here: https://ericward-noaa.github.io/
Through his affiliate professor status at the University of Washington, Eric is able to take on and supervise graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. Additional post-doc opportunities may be available with him via the NRC program.
