Marine Habitat Resource Specialist/Virginia

David O’Brien is a Fisheries Biologist with NOAA Fisheries Service, Greater Atlantic Region’s Habitat and Ecosystem Services Division located in our Virginia Field Office in Gloucester Point, Virginia. He has worked in the conservation of aquatic resources in Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia for more than 20 years. His previous work in environmental consulting and with an academic research institution’s wetlands program has provided him with a unique perspective regarding the need to conserve aquatic habitats and marine resources. He's a certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) with expertise in estuarine fisheries, submerged aquatic vegetation, tidal wetlands, mitigation banking, and the application of Living Shoreline techniques for shoreline protection.
