Danielle Alvarez

Danielle is a NOAA affiliate contracted through the University of Miami's Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies at the Southeast Fisheries Science Center located in Galveston, Texas. Her career in fisheries began in southern California working on conservation and restoration efforts for southern steelhead trout. She then made her way to the Caribbean, working with nesting populations of endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Danielle is currently part of the Fishery Ecology Branch of the Galveston Laboratory where she works as a GIS technician mapping coastal and estuarine habitat for various fisheries managed by NMFS and the Southeast Fisheries Science Center. Danielle was an integral member of the team that produced the Inland EFH Mapper for the Southeast region.

Danielle earned her Bachelors degree in Environmental Science in 2016 concentrating on Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from University of California, Los Angeles. She also earned a professional GIS certificate from University of California, San Diego in 2019. She is currently pursuing a Master in Professional Science in Fisheries Management and Conservation from the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
