The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening directed fishing for Pacific cod for vessels catching Pacific cod for processing by the offshore component in the Central Regulatory Area of the Gulf of Alaska effective 12 noon, Alaska local time (A.l.t.) February 25, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to fully utilize the total allowable catch of Pacific cod for the offshore component in the Central Regulatory Area.
