Summary

Quota Transfer and Adjustment: Atlantic Bluefin Tuna General Category (Commercial) Fishery

NOAA Fisheries adjusts the Atlantic bluefin tuna General category December 2023 subquota by transferring quota from the Reserve category to the General category December time period. This action accounts for accrued overharvest from previous time periods. The resulting adjusted quotas are:

  • December time period subquota = 48.7 mt; and
  • Reserve category = 1 mt.

These quotas will be in effect when the fishery opens on December 1 and remain in effect for the remainder of the 2023 fishing year.

Who is affected?

Atlantic Tunas General category permitted vessels are affected. Highly migratory species Charter/Headboat permitted vessels with a commercial sale endorsement are also affected when fishing commercially for bluefin tuna.
