Summary

Fishermen aboard vessels with an Atlantic Tunas Harpoon category permit may not retain, possess, or land large medium or giant bluefin after 11:30 p.m. on September 5, 2022.

How long will the closure be in effect?

The closure is in effect through November 15, 2022—the end of the 2022 Harpoon category fishing season. The Harpoon category will reopen on June 1, 2023.

Atlantic Tunas Harpoon category vessel owners are required to report all bluefin tuna retained or discarded dead within 24 hours of the landing(s) or end of each trip by:
