Summary

NOAA Fisheries announces the approval of Amendment 56 to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska and Amendment 56 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Groundfish Fishery of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Area. These amendments revise the definition of overfishing levels for groundfish species or species groups in these fishery management plans. This action is necessary to revise the definition of OFL for compliance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act). This action is intended to advance the ability of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council to achieve, on a continuing basis, the optimum yield from fisheries within its geographical area of authority.
