Summary

NOAA Fisheries proposes to implement a rebuilding plan that includes annual catch limits and accountability measures for the overfished bottomfish stock complex in American Samoa. The Western Pacific Fishery Management Council recommended the rebuilding plan as part of Amendment 5 to the Fishery Ecosystem Plan for the American Samoa Archipelago. This action is necessary to end overfishing and rebuild the overfished stock consistent with the requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act). NOAA Fisheries is accepting comments on the proposed rule through March 21, 2022.
