Restoration of nearly 40 acres of salt marsh and other coastal habitats will help Great Meadows Marsh in Long Island Sound respond to sea level rise. The effort is supported by funding from three pollution cases in Connecticut.
NOAA and partners began construction on a massive 1,200 acre marsh creation project in Louisiana’s Barataria Basin. The project, which has a budget up to $181 million, will create habitat, reduce erosion, and protect communities.
An additional $1.2 million in funding will support an effort underway to rebuild more than 300 acres of marsh habitat and help protect local communities from storms and flooding.
NOAA-supported restoration work aims to alleviate flooding, prevent fish kills, and reconnect migrating salmon and steelhead to their historic habitat.
