Status Reviews of Non-Marine Mammals in Alaska

December 29, 2014

Status reviews of non-marine mammals considered for Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing as threatened or endangered species.

Status Reviews are based on the best available scientific and commercial information at the time of the reviews. In recent years NOAA Fisheries has reviewed the status of a number of non-marine mammal species in Alaska. Information evaluated in a Status Review includes:

  • management and conservation measures in place to protect the species
  • abundance, range, density, size, age class, recruitment
  • known and potential threats including disease, overharvest, poaching, predation, ocean acidification, climate change, contaminants, and coastal development
