Recovery Plan for U.S. Population of Atlantic Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas)

October 29, 1991

This recovery plan serves as a road map for green sea turtle recovery in the U.S. Atlantic—the plan outlines the path and tasks required to restore and secure self-sustaining wild populations.

Breeding populations in Florida and on the Pacific coast of Mexico are federally listed as endangered. All other populations are listed as threatened. Primary nesting beaches occur along a six count area in east central and southeast Florida. Nesting activity ranges from approximately 350- 2,300 ne s annually. Coastal development threatens nesting habitat and populations while commercial fisheries 1d pollution pose significant threats in the marine environment. The goal of this recovery plan is to delist the species in the United States once recovery criteria are met.
